Managing PowerGUI Profiles
From PowerGUI Wiki
This wiki entry is slightly out of date as of the 1.9.6 release - we will be updating this information shortly
PowerGUI stores its profile in the %appdata%\Quest Software\PowerGUI folder (which resolves to c:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Quest Software\PowerGUI on Windows 2003 and Windows XP and c:\User\user_name\Application Data\Roaming\PowerGUI on Windows Vista and Windows 2008).
PowerGUI reads all its configuration from this folder.
To reset PowerGUI configuration:
- Delete or rename the
%appdata%\Quest Software\PowerGUIfolder. - Start the PowerGUI admin console.
Changing default configuration
If you delete the existing profile, the new profile will by default have the PowerPacks you chose when installing PowerGUI.
PowerGUI reads these from the quest.powergui.xml file stored in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Quest Software\PowerGUI.
To have empty configuration by default:
- Delete or rename the common configuration file.
To have a different default configuration:
- Substitute the common configuration file.
To switch between multiple configuration profiles:
- Rename/copy the
%appdata%\Quest Software\PowerGUIfolder. - This will let you have multiple profile folders in
%appdata%\Quest Software\, e.g. PowerGUI_1, PowerGUI_2, PowerGUI_3. - To select the one which you want to get loaded, rename its folder back to PowerGUI.
To lock down the PowerGUI configuration (so users cannot modify it) and distribute it centrally for multiple workstations:
