PowerGUI ships with support for the following PowerShell enabled platforms:

  • WMI Browser - Displays WMI classes on the local server and any other computer in the network.
  • Active Directory - Provides the Active Directory Management Console.
Free AD cmdlets can be downloaded from the Quest website at http://www.quest.com/activeroles-server/arms.aspx
  • Local System - Enables local computer management.
  • Exchange 2007 - Enables Exchange Server management. (Note: Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2007 Management Console must be installed on your local computer.)
  • Operations Manager 2007 - Provides System Center Operations Manager 2007. (Note: Operations Manager Console must be installed on the local computer.)
  • Network - Enables network computer management.

Adding other platforms: During install, PowerGUI detects which platforms you have installed and displays a dialog asking you to choose which platforms you wish to install support for:

In the example above - Exchange 2007, System Center Operations Manager 2007 and the VI Toolkit PowerShell snapins were NOT found during install.

To add PowerShell support for additional platforms

1. Download and install the appropriate snapin file

2. Select File | PowerShell Libraries.

In this example, the VI Toolkit was downloaded and installed before restarting PowerGUI.

3. Select from the available list of snapins and click OK.

Once you have installed the snapins you want, you should now look for PowerPacks created specifically for PowerGUI
